ADHD LOOKS DIFFERENT IN EVERY CHILD, BUT HERE ARE SOME COMMON SIGNS OF ADHD:

  • Makes “silly mistakes” on assignments/homework due to not reading directions or not checking work.
  • Has difficulty understanding appropriate boundaries with peers.
  • Easily overwhelmed by mundane or “easy” tasks that require concentration.
  • Poor memory and listening skills.
  • Frequently caught daydreaming in class or when required to sit still.
  • Constantly fidgeting or unable to sit still, when compared with peers.
  • Able to focus for long periods of time when the task is interesting.
  • Interrupts others or blurts out in class.
  • Not finishing tasks – often doesn’t do the final step.

However, there are other factors that can cause symptoms that can appear to be ADHD. There are a number of situations that can result in problems that may look like ADHD. If there is a lot of stress or a sudden life change – such as a move to a new home or a new school; a divorce or remarriage; a death of someone close; financial difficulties; even the birth of a new baby can all create problems with attention, focus and concentration.

If you think your child might have ADHD, an evaluation and written report provides very valuable information for the treatment of ADHD. It can determine whether or not your child has ADHD, or if it may be another problem. Some of these may be anxiety, mood disorders or learning difficulties. Testing can also identify what other factors may be affecting your child, how those factors are impacting your child as an individual, and most importantly, what you can do to help your child succeed.

After the evaluation, a plan of treatment will be developed to help your child overcome any barriers to them succeeding.

Brookway Counseling’s ADHD treatment offers ADHD evaluations and written reports and counseling for children, teens and adults.
