When Do You Need Psychological Testing?

Psychological Testing can be very helpful when there is a lack of clarity regarding the causes of various emotional, psychological, learning, or behavioral problems experienced by a child, adolescent, or adult. (1)

Common Types of Psychological Testing that we offer for Children and Adolescents:

  • Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)
  • Development Delays or Disabilities (e.g., social, emotional, achievement, intellectual, etc.)
  • Learning Disorders (i.e., dyslexia, mathematics, writing)
  • Autism Spectrum Disorders
  • Psychodiagnosic (e.g., to clarify or confirm a diagnosis of other mental health disorders such as Depression, Anxiety Disorders, etc.)

Psychological Testing Services for Adults:

There are many reasons why psychological testing is helpful for adults. You may want to clarify whether or not you have ADHD. Or you may want to know why you are having difficulty in school or at work. Sometimes it may be useful or necessary to clarify which mental health diagnosis is causing problems. Or it may be useful to confirm an existing diagnosis.

Testing will include an initial interview to gather background information and start identifying which testing protocols would best suit your needs. You will then be scheduled for the testing which might include answering questions or completing tasks on a computer, completing puzzles with an interviewer, and/or filling out paper-and-pencil questionnaires. A feedback session will follow once the information has been analyzed, scored, and entered into a comprehensive testing report. The report will contain results of the testing along with recommendations for treatment.

Common Types of Psychological Testing that we offer for Adults:

  • Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder
  • Learning Disorders (i.e., dyslexia, mathematics, writing)
  • Psychodiagnosic (e.g., to clarify or confirm a diagnosis of other mental health disorders such as Bipolar Disorders, Anxiety Disorders, etc.)
  • Chronic Pain Assessments
  • Bariatric (Weight Loss Surgery) Assessments
  • Memory Screening

How do I pay for Psychological Testing?

Often times, psychological assessments/testing are covered by your health insurance. We are able to verify your benefits prior to testing and provide you with a quote that estimates your out of pocket costs. Please know that your insurance company’s quote does not guarantee payment, but it will provide you with an estimate of your coverage. If you have concerns about your health care coverage, we ask that you contact your insurance company directly to work out your concerns prior to setting an appointment for testing services. We also offer self-pay and payment options.
